Summary
The eternal night no longer seemed as malevolent and all-consuming to Jonathan as it once had. It was peaceful, in its way: quiet enough to see danger coming from some distance. Quiet enough for Geoffrey McCullum's war dogs to avoid him under the streetlamps unless he had come across them in the midst of battle.
But appearances are deceptive. A screaming silence, a bright night... What if everything is turned upside down? Friends and enemies, trust and betrayal, pride and humiliation. At times closer than the two sides of a coin... and Geoffrey and Jonathan have precious little time to unravel it all.

Summary
It didn’t make any sense. There had to be a reason that the leech had let him go. McCullum was going to make him regret letting him live. Because the other option wasn’t something that he could possibly consider… right?

Summary
Flu cases are down, Skal plague nearly gone, and Geoffrey McCullum has never had more problems. Creating an exception, cooperating with a leech, if only to save London, may tear apart Priwen as the epidemic never could.
Flu cases are down, the Blood of Hate is vanquished for now, and Jonathan Reid has barely any fewer responsibilities. He has his family and old friend to care for, and his patients, and his new progeny, and his project to cure Elisabeth Ashbury.
When McCullum is attacked and wounded steps from the Pembroke Hospital on a trip to make peace with the Brotherhood of Saint Paul's Stole--by a human--it becomes clear they have more worries still, and they need each other still. But pulling the thread will simply reveal a tangle of plots and schemes, by dangerous mortals and immortals grasping for control in London's secret societies and streets by night, with no clear way out.

Summary
"Nicknamed 'Barker' because of the noise produced when firing, and the shape of its large muzzle. This pistol was conceived, crafted, and held by Carl Eldritch, second leader of the Guard of Priwen. Heavy, not very accurate, and supplied with a customized magazine, it is a gun designed to quickly make many big holes in its target. Carl Eldritch asked to be buried with his gun, so as to be able to shoot himself in case a vampire would trick him by somehow offering him the poisonous gift of immortality. However, the gun was mysteriously stolen before the funeral, never to be seen again."
Jonathan Reid is not evil, not by half, but he has been removed from the world of humans and their consequences. Immortality has granted him a new perspective, and the desires that once seemed impossible to admit even to himself now seem a trivial thing.
Now Reid finds himself in possession of something that Geoffrey McCullum - the most powerful hunter on the continent and perhaps Reid's one and only equal - would sell his soul to recover.

Summary
"[The Captain] fiddled with his tie as he walked down the corridor, but was stopped in his tracks by a sudden wailing cry. He smirked briefly, unable to suppress his amusement at the thought of Julian and his houseguests, before carrying on down the main staircase, and out into the gardens.
He’d made the right decision in switching rooms last night, clearly. He had no doubt that Michael’s parents would have provided enough of a disturbance to have made sleep a moot point. And, if nothing else, at least he didn’t have to worry about Thomas phasing through him in the middle of the night.
At that thought, the Captain abruptly came to a halt. He placed his swagger-stick under his arm and drew in a tremulous breath.
Nothing about Thomas had been incorporeal last night. Nothing whatsoever. The memory of his solidity, of the weight of his body, of the sheer warmth of that contact—".
Displaced from his bedroom over the Christmas period, the Captain is forced to make new sleeping arrangements.
