"Damian, it's time for night...," Dick was met with a death glare from Jonathan that froze his spine, "...watch"
The alien hybrid held the heir like he were the most precious thing in the world. A dragon protecting its priceless hoard. Stroking his hair and protecting him from the familiar intruder. Thankful that his stomping around hadn't woken him up.
Dick blinked for a moment. Like he were collecting his thoughts.
"No night watch?" Dick wagered a guess, sure of his answer as he looked into those icy blue eyes.
"No," Jon answered in the affirmative, his voice taking on an uncharacteristic protectiveness that Dick hadn't heard before, "no night watch"
Dick nodded curtly and left the room, unwilling to ask any questions.
A few minutes after his brother had left, Damian's eyes fluttered open again, and he weakly reached out for Jon. Seeking out his comfort. Jon held onto him tightly.
"Jon, what was that noise?" he asked groggily.
"Nothing, darling, go back to sleep" he whispered, running his fingers though his hair.
