Ryuuji wasn’t sure what madness compelled him to do it. Possibly the same impulsiveness that had sent him stomping into the ring to face down a reaper and had him bowing in front of Lightning to become an apprentice. Possibly too long denying that he had the feelings roaring in his chest. Possibly sheer relief and exhaustion mixing with too much adrenaline and the brightness of Rin’s smile…
Whatever it was, it had Ryuuji setting Rin back down in the snow and letting the halfling’s chest go just to cup Rin’s face between his hands and surge forward to give Rin a kiss he’d been trying not to think about for months. A purely impulsive action his half frozen brain didn’t have the chance to think through before it was happening.
(And neither of them had any regrets.)
