There was a lot one could say about the Vinsmokes:

The corruption. The fall from glory. The insistent crusade in science and military powerhouse that one Judge Vinsmoke was famous for, but the biggest was the underlining secrets.

Secrets that were like a miasma that crept out of the floating country. Each and every one of the royal family had a secret, but the biggest one of all was how Sanji, the third of the quadruplets, the ultimate failure of Judge’s latest experiment, wasn’t the only one who was technically a failure.

In which all the Vinsmoke brothers have emotions, and while enhanced, want to protect their third.

What if Sanji's siblings weren't brainwashed by Judge and took Sanji's side?
What if, as children, they loved their mother and believed her when she said their father was lying to them?
What if they banded together against Judge instead of against Sanji?

    Summary

Of all the things Kaveh expects to see Al-Haitham doing at home, gardening is probably near the bottom of the list. For some reason, the image of Al-Haitham tending to plants is difficult to reconcile in his mind.

In Kaveh’s memories, Al-Haitham has always liked to talk to himself since their student days. It’s as if he’s having a one-sided conversation with a voice only he could hear.

Still, he’d never expect Al-Haitham to be the type to talk to his plants.

Or: Five times Kaveh finds Al-Haitham talking to himself... or is he?

    Summary

The first Guide that is brought forward is a mess. Al-Haitham keeps his head down as the exchange commences, and once she is let go, Kaveh himself stands up and makes his way down off his throne. Then he looks at Al-Haitham and asks him to touch his hand.

It takes approximately half a second for Al-Haitham to know that he is doomed for life.

Al-Haitham enters a marriage of convenience with Kaveh, the new king of Sumeru.

    Summary

“If I had asked for commentary, I would have invited you over.”

“That’s on you for giving me your spare key.”

Even without looking, Ratio saw the patronising smirk on Aventurine’s lips. Yes, that was indeed Ratio’s fault, chalked up to a lapse in his judgement. Now here Aventurine was, flouncing around the apartment like an esteemed guest and not a cockroach Ratio would love to squash underneath one of his gilded sandals. Aventurine liked to come by sometimes to gawp at all of Ratio’s unfinished work and make moronic reflections of how impressive everything looked, never managing to sound genuine in his delivery.

He’d come by more frequently as of late due to his loneliness and utter lack of other social connections with which to waste his time on. “So you’re still alive,” he’d say, then toss himself into the giant bouclé armchair in the corner, shrinking him down to ant-size.

Or: Aventurine comes to visit and helps Ratio let off some steam.

    Summary

They have not spoken of the wings again since the explosion at the Intelligentsia Guild laboratory - save for once, one afternoon when Aventurine lay sprawled across Ratio’s lap, utterly exhausted, and Ratio’s hand paused as he threaded his fingers soothingly through Aventurine’s hair.

“You have no obligation to nor do I have any expectations of you, but I hope you will take care of your wings.” Ratio’s voice was quiet and careful, and when Aventurine turned to look up at him, he was still looking at the book in his other hand. Beams of gentle afternoon sunlight splayed across them both, catching the edges of Ratio’s hair and reflecting in his eyes, still on the pages but soft around the edges. “Naturally, should there be anything I can do for you, you have my full support. But should you prefer time and solitude, you need only say the word.”

Aventurine just hummed and rolled onto his side, hiding his face against Ratio’s stomach. Ratio was warm and solid against him. “We can talk about it later, Doc,” he said, words coming soft and slow and his eyelids growing heavy with sleep, “promise.”

Aventurine really did mean it - he still does.

    It can’t be too late.

    Summary

“Describe it for me,” Jiaoqiu requests softly, knowing that he isn’t truly alone.

For a long moment, there’s no sound in response save for the rustle of leaves. It’s as if Jiaoqiu is standing by the railing by himself, accompanied only by the distant sound of waves and the wind through the trees.

Eventually, there is a faint presence at his side and Moze speaks.

    “... It’s cloudy.”

Jiaoqiu laughs, and his laugh is all that sounds out in the scant space between them. Only the brush of Moze’s sleeve against his tells Jiaoqiu that he is not alone.

“They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so surely the scenery is worth more than two,” Jiaoqiu says, teasing. He grins, knowing full well that words come harder to Moze than himself. Even so, he can’t help but lilt his voice into playfulness as he asks, “Will you try again, Moze? For me?”

The sleeve brushing his own shifts, and when it settles, it’s ever so slightly closer. Jiaoqiu doesn’t truly expect a response, but  -

    “I will,” Moze says.

Moze’s voice is nearly carried away by the breeze, but the softness of his tone speaks volumes more than what he says.
