He wants to cry. He wants to scream. He wants to ask Eddie what he remembers but he also doesn’t because he’s selfish and he doesn’t want to be the only one struggling to get over this. It happened months ago. It wasn’t even him that was shot.
“It’s on repeat in my mind every night, Eddie,” he says, without really meaning to.
Eddie nods and squeezes his shoulder.
“I…” Buck takes a shuddering breath, closing his eyes. “I don’t understand how you’re not struggling with this like I am.”
“Who says I’m not struggling, Buck?”

Jee’s nose scrunches up in consideration. “Hmmm.” She counts out the gumdrops on her plate. “Okay, but take the red ones. I don’t really like those.” Maddie scoffs in amusement and Eddie smiles, receiving four red gumdrops in his hand.
“Wow, thank you! The cherry ones are my favorite.” He makes a big show of shoving them all in his mouth at once and can’t stop his face from twisting up at the flavor, exposing the lie immediately. They taste like cough syrup. Maddie and Jee burst into giggles, and despite the attack on his taste buds, Eddie breaks into a goofy smile too. “Mmm. Just what I wanted.”
Buck smiles to himself, tears springing up as he watches them from the living room. Eddie and his girls.

Buck had died and still Eddie leaving felt like the worst thing that had happened to him.
On a Wednesday, Eddie told Buck that he’d be moving to Texas that same week. He’d expedited the move, renting an Airbnb until he found somewhere more permanent and sold the house in LA. He just couldn’t bear to miss another holiday with Christopher, so he left on the Sunday.
Today is the following Tuesday, Christmas Eve. And Buck hasn’t left 4995 South Bedford Street since the early hours of Thursday morning when he promptly realised he was in love with Eddie.OR
Those idiots don't confess their love, Eddie moves to Texas and Buck is Buck about it all.

It’s not that they weren’t going to tell people, it’s just that everything has been so hectic the past few weeks, what with Eddie and Chris moving back, and Eddie taking time off to settle back in, and the usual personal and professional chaos of the holidays, so they just don’t get around to it. Chris knows, because Eddie promised to always keep him in the loop from here on out, and well, since it happened Buck has been staying at the house more than he already did, which is to say he basically lives there now.
He’s so so so glad he convinced Eddie to rent it rather than sell it when he left.
But the point is, they were going to tell people, really, but then suddenly it’s New Year’s Eve, the first one they’ve all had off in a long time, and everyone is gathered at Maddie and Chim’s, and well, Buck just kind of forgets. That no one knows, that it’s kind of a secret, that it’s not something they’ve been doing their entire lives.
