Summary
While the team are assisting with the humanitarian crisis in Central Asia, Joe and Nicky are abducted on a deserted road. Joe is brutally executed and left in the desert. No one has seen Nicky since. With no leads, no other witnesses and barely a place to start, Joe quickly unravels and Andy calls Isabella. The search begins...

He is unceremoniously dumped on the ground and Nicky lifts his head to see Joe almost upon them, unmasking one of the men and shoving him to the ground. Joe fights to reach Nicky with only his bare hands. But, unlike Joe, the men who hold him are armed and he feels like his stomach is pulled through his throat as the unmasked man shoots Joe several times in the chest. One misses the mark and hits him horribly in the throat but one definitely embeds in his beloved’s heart. As he is picked up again, Nicky wails like a wounded animal as he watches the love of his life crumple to the ground.
The last thing he sees before the butt of a rifle hits him in the temple and the trunk of the Mercedes’ shuts over his head is Joe’s body being dragged away from the road.

It takes just minutes for her to fall sound asleep, curled in on herself.
But two and a half hours later Nicky notices in his periphery Isabella wincing and flinching and his attention snaps back to her.
“Joe…” he says apprehensively, slowly rising to his feet.
Joe looks over immediately and he also gets up and moves closer, eyes locked on Isabella’s prone body.
“Guys? What’s going on?” Nile asks, also standing, her eyes flicking between her brothers and her friend.
Abruptly Isabella desperately clutches both hands to her temple screaming and all three rush forward.

Summary

Isabella turns around from the bench to peer at him critically. She slowly puts down her coffee. Her lack of response draws Nicky’s attention and he turns to look at her. Isabella regards them both determinedly and in a flash of movement grabs the kitchen knife and stabs herself in the upper thigh. They both rush forward but she stops them with a fierce look.
“Unghh…” She grunts, staring them both down as she extracts the blade. Isabella breathes through the pain with one eyebrow raised. “Seems like I’m not the only one who needs to get used to the idea of my immortality?” she says smugly.

The worst part is that Nicky knows he's too old for this shit. A summer romance—that all-consuming passion crashing over you like a tidal wave and lasting about as long—is one thing for a teenager. But he's much closer to thirty than twenty at this point. He should damn well know better.
Yet here he is, flat on his back in the late morning sunlight, his shoulders splayed halfway off the side of the bed, sheets rumpled beneath him and Joe's beard rough against the skin of his inner thighs, and it's the closest to God that Nicky has ever felt.
(Modern!AU. Nicky's a bartender in Cinque Terre, Joe's a tourist just passing through, they fall in love. Because of course they do.)
