Summary
“Weiss!” Ruby calls to her, beaming with a grin that reaches her eyes. Silver sparkles, reflecting the porchlights, and Weiss is certain she has never seen anything more beautiful in her entire life. “It’s raining!”
She gives a wry smile, deadpanning as she motions around, “No kidding.”
“Come here, come here, come here!” Ruby darts over to her, standing on the dirt trail while Weiss shelters on the porch. She extends her hand to her and Weiss’s fingers twitch to accept it. Always accept it, and never let her go. “Please?”
“I don’t appreciate getting wet if I don’t have to, Ruby. You enjoy the rain for both of us.”
“But,” Ruby pouts, features dimming the slightest bit, (it sends a spike of panic through her heart), “I want to dance with you.”
Weiss snorts, “You can’t dance.”
“So, teach me!”
“In the rain?”
“In the rain.”
Weiss purses her lips, crossing her arms with a slow sigh. Resigning herself to her fate as she enjoys her last few seconds of being dry until she steps off of the porch and immediately gets bombarded by the cold water. Her nose wrinkles.
“You’re lucky I love you.”

“I saw her,” Ruby chokes on a wet sob, her chest stuttering against Weiss’. “I-I saw her, in the Ever After. I saw—the Blacksmith, she—”
Weiss coos under her breath, running her fingers through Ruby’s hair, dragging her nails against her scalp. There’s sand in her hair, gritty and definitely getting all over Weiss’ bed.Another harsh sob tears its way out of Ruby’s throat, painful and desperate.
“I want my mom—” she manages.

I can't stop thinking about Ruby's mental health and how much the people around her love her anyway. I love these characters to pieces

“You do realize,” Ruby began to muse, “they’re gonna find out about the thing, right?” she tells Weiss.
Weiss peeps from above her newspaper, generously provided by the diner, raising an eyebrow at Ruby, looking lost. “What thing?”
“You know?” Ruby tilts her head, leaning close to Weiss as she lowered her voice to an obnoxious whisper, “The thing.”
Weiss gawks, utterly confused. Ruby groans and gives her a suffering look.
