“Alright. What is not aces is that this is transpiring to be futile. I may have to contact Monty and see if he is willing to-”
“No!” The protest escaped Charles before he realised it, his mouth snapping shut immediately at Edwin's incredulous look. The thought of some random bloke getting it on with Edwin – even for a ruse – was enough to make him do something stupid. “Why do you need someone else, mate? I’m right here, aren’t I?”
Fuck, too stupid.
Edwin sucked in a sharp breath, the only indication that Charles had stepped onto an invisible landmine. “What are you offering, Charles?”
Now that he’d started, he couldn’t stop. “For the holiday party, mate. You need someone who knows you, someone who’s willing to go along with it, someone you’re comfortable with, then- well, I’m offering myself up, mate.”

Surely there is no way pretending to be a couple for a christmas office party can go wrong.

Summary
Edwin won't budge. "Absolutely not, Charles. We will not move forward unless you tell me about at least one thing you desire. What is something you wish for?"
Charles' automatic response is one of frustration. Why wouldn't it be? Edwin is pushing this idea that Charles doesn't enjoy everything that they do, that he needs anything more, that the fantasies he has at night- when they are separate to work on research or have the alone time that Edwin sometimes needs because his "social battery" (a concept they learned from Niko) has been used up- could possibly line up with the effects of what they do in the daytime.
As a matter of fact, Charles can prove that it's a foolish idea. That they should just go back to doing things their usual way.
So he tosses out a frequent but idle fantasy, one he's sure that Edwin will balk at and realize that this was a stupid endeavor and then they can just go back to doing things the right way, with Charles pleasing Edwin.
“That bonding spell of yours,” Charles says, “I want you to pin me down and tie me up and do whatever you want, okay?”
(Edwin notices that Charles has only been indulging Edwin's fantasies and seeks to correct this.)

Summary
Monty would trade every medicine, every healed bone and fuck-you to his mother, if it meant Charles’ safety.
It doesn’t matter that the Victor shown on the propos seems healthy. It doesn’t matter that they’ve dressed him in black, all suits and the flashes of silver and gold jewelry beneath the cuffs on his sleeves, all Two strength and wealth and privilege.
Monty knows Charles Rowland well enough to know what’s wrong. There is no red in his clothing. His earring is gone, replaced by a small stud in both ears more appropriate of a Two bruiser, a perfect match to the father that is by his side in so many of the propos.
(And that’s not even getting started on the iron crown they put on his head, that all-too-familiar weight of not just Victorhood, but of his father’s legacy, a weight that Monty knows all too well.)
Even Remake can’t hide the shadows under Charles’ eyes, his uneasy gait, the way that fire burns in his eyes as he speaks to the glory of the Capitol in a cadenced voice that has never once belonged on his lips.
But the Rebellion won't do a damn thing to save him.
(Charles is stuck in the Capitol. Everyone else is ready to raise all hell to bring him home.)
