Summary
Izuku had a soulmark before. Explosions across his collarbone, bright and loud, a neon sign that screamed for all the world to hear exactly who his soulmate was.
It disappears in his final year of middle school. Izuku asks the universe to take it away after his last straw is taken in Kacchan’s hands and snapped in half, and he isn’t granted a second one. Not that he minds all that much- no, no one is better than Kacchan was, and Izuku thinks he can settle for finding love one day without the help of some fancy mark on his skin.
Hitoshi never had a soulmark before. He grew up without one and got bullied for it. After all, he was the villain kid, so despicable with such an evil quirk that even the universe agreed he wasn’t worthy of love. He grew to accept it slowly, eventually coming to terms with the fact that he’d have to find someone on his own even if the odds were stacked against him.
Both of them are surprised one night to see a splotch of color on their hands, a thin matching thread that begins to grow as the days go by.
Thankfully, neither are disappointed.

Hitoshi glowered at Midoriya and Uraraka, not even bothering to hide his disgust. Why had Uraraka referred to Midoriya with such a cruel word- almost a slur against quirkless people, and why had Midoriya responded with no hesitation or even hurt about being called Deku. Was this some kind of cruel inside joke because they had powerful quirks? What the fuck was their problem?
OR:
‘Deku’ is a slur, and Hitoshi refuses to use that as Izuku’s hero name
