Summary
Jacob Portman has a mental break after discovering his grandfathers' dead body. Because of this his parents sent him to a psych ward, he's been living there ever since. He sees the other teen ward patients as something he calls "peculiars". He's convinced he's being hunted by these things called "Hollowgasts", the same thing he's convinced killed his grandfather. In reality these "Hollowgasts" are just the orderlies, he seems to have a motherly relationship with his doctor, Dr. Alma Peregrine. He's closest to another patient who is convinced he can raise the dead, and to another two patients one who thinks she can control fire and one who thinks his dreams come true. These teenagers aren't okay but in their mixed up worlds and minds, they truly only have each other and they're okay with that.
