Alex pouts and pokes at his food with his fingers.
“Alex, he’s the photographer for the gala on Saturday” and when Alex doesn’t respond, he continues. “He came by to check out the space and set up some equipment and lighting,” Henry reaches over the table, grabbing Alex’s free hand and squeezing it. “You have nothing to worry about, darling” then drops his hand reaching for his second cup of spiced chai.
Alex’s shoulder drops and he goes back to his meal.
“Javier is a stupid name” he mumbles.
Henry laughs and kicks him under the table. “Don’t you have a cousin named Javier?”
He shrugs, “Yeah. So what? still a stupid name”.

Henry’s heart lurches painfully as he nods. “Yeah, of course,” he replies, his voice hoarse with the onslaught of emotion running through his body.
“And you said that kissing a boy helped you figure out who you are attracted to, right?”
This time Henry only hums in response, his heart beating so erratically, Alex must hear it.
“You absolutely can say no and I will never ever hold it against you because this is seriously not something friends do for each other, even if you are best friends, but –”
“Yes,” Henry interrupts him breathless before he feels himself blush hard. He clears his throat before he tries again. “I-I mean,” he stutters nervously, “you can, you know, kiss me. If it helps you figure things out.”
Or an AU in which Henry still hates New Year's, is desperately in love with Alex, and might finally get everything he ever wanted when his best friend asks him for help. They figure it out.

Five days a week, Alex sits across from Henry for 58 minutes in the morning, rattling on about the virtues of the Tube and how efficient it is compared to the NYC subway, or his irrational dislike of Pret coffee, or a new bookstore he thinks Henry would like.
Five days a week, Alex and Henry leave the shelter together to take the bus home. They almost always end up standing for part of the way, occasionally bumping up against each other. Sometimes, Alex doesn't move away. It's nice.

Alex’s journey of self discovery started one random night five years ago, when he was scrolling his favorite porn website to relax after midterms.
He chose a video with the preview of two guys in the threesome category, thinking nothing of it, and came so hard he thought he was going to pass out.
The threesome didn’t happen, the girl just sat there looking at the two guys going at it, just like Alex did.
After that night, saying that the tall, blond and gorgeous actor with a fucking sinful shoulder to waist ratio didn’t do it for him was a complete lie, so maybe, maybe, Alex could be excused when he freezes up when said man - even more tall, blond and gorgeous in real life - stretches a hand toward him and says “I’m Henry, Pez’s ‘best mate of honor’, as he says.” with his perfectly infuriating British accent.
