Her heart clenches in her chest when she thinks back to the quiet sobs Kara had let out, how her body had trembled in Lena’s arms. “I had been leaning on her for months. She… she saw it all, and she carried her pain and mine on her shoulders and it hurt her so much. But I had been so captivated by my own pain that I didn’t realize I had made it hers too.”
“You’re feeling guilty for how what happened to you affected Kara,” Kelly concludes. “Is that why you are punishing yourself?”
“I think so,” Lena blinks away tears and lets out a shaky sigh. “And I… Kara. She made it her fault, told me that she should have been there earlier. And the worst part is, that for a moment that night, right before… it happened, I thought the same. Where is Supergirl? Why isn’t she here?”
