Regulus knows James Potter. The kind of music he likes, what he does in his free time, every single detail he can absorb.
James does not know him.
Sirius has made sure of that, keeping his mentally unwell brother far away from the object of his obsession. Funnily enough, it's James who comes to Regulus. Well-meaning, curious with no idea what he's getting into.
The lines between love and obsession are blurry and hard to read.
“No, we’re friends now, remember? I know it hasn’t been long, but I think I’m learning you, aren’t I?”

James had Regulus, but he didn’t know him. Regulus knew James but didn’t have him.
“Maybe you could,” was all Regulus could say in response. That was a truth. James could probably learn Regulus inside and out. Regulus would offer that if it didn’t mean breaking down the fixation—the rotting truth behind their growing relationship.

James flops onto the bed, sated and content. His bones all feel like jelly, and his chest is warm. Sleeping with anyone always puts him in a good mood, but it turns out fucking someone who makes his blood boil is even better.
He tilts his head to the side, beaming, and watches as Regulus stares dumbstruck at the ceiling.
“Yeah. Amazing, right?” James says.
Regulus blinks a few times before he finally looks over at him.
“That…. was fucking awful.”
or: James Potter is terrible in bed and turns to long-time rival, Regulus Black, for help. The price? A fake relationship to get Regulus's parents off his back. What could possibly go wrong?

Summary
Harry doesn’t think much about the Triwizard Tournament beyond being relieved that he won’t have anything to do with it at all. It seems like he might finally have a quiet, peaceful year.
So, of course, his name ends up coming out of the Goblet of Fire despite the fact that he would never in a million years enter this death tournament willingly.
The entire school turns their back on him once more, only this time, he truly feels alone. Is this how it’s always going to be? Year after year of being thrown into life-threatening danger at Hogwarts while surrounded by people who can’t decide whether they love or hate him only to be shunted off to the Dursleys –who certainly aren’t shy about how much they hate him– every summer?
It feels like the fighting never ends. Harry is so, so tired…
