Summary
Rounding the corner between the bookshelves Remus saw a young, bespectacled boy with the wildest hair Remus thought he’d ever seen on a child, with what, objectively, might’ve been the most handsome man Remus had ever set eyes on crouched beside him. Remus was only stunned by an elegant sweep of black hair for a moment before he noticed the man was signing to the boy. He was a little slow and stuttered in his movements, lacking the kind of fluidity that appeared when one signed as their first language.
Remus' otherwise quiet trip to the bookstore takes an unexpected turn.

Harry had never heard music. If he was asked, he would say there was music in the way ballerinas moved the one time he saw them on the telly when Vernon had fallen asleep and left it on, a slow kind of music when he was cleaning all day and his movements were steady and repetitive, and a wonderful music in the hands of skilled signers as they conversed in British Sign Language. See, Harry Potter was deaf. You might think that he developed the disability due to abuses from his brutish muggle guardians, the Dursleys, but he had been born that way and, quite frankly, didn’t consider it a disability at all. His Deafness was part of who he was, and he wasn’t ashamed of it the way he was of his scrawny frame or ill fitting clothing. At the very least, it meant he almost never had to hear the Dursleys yelling at him.

“I…” Damian said, mumbling a little. “I am not good at, uh, these things but…I know you like this so…um, can I hug you?” Damian struggled to request, unsure if he was asking correctly or being strange, it certainly felt strange to him.
Jon looked back at Damian confused, seeing the older boy looking awkward and opening his arms and legs so Jon could settle fully back into Damian. They had hardly ever done things like this before but god, Jon really did want the contact, but he hesitated.
“A-Are you sur-“
“Yes or I would not offer.” Damian cut him off and beckoned with his hands.
It was all Jon needed to hear before he crawled back into Damian’s embrace, sitting sideways between his arms and legs, burying his face into Damian’s tunic, the body armor underneath pressing against his face but Jon didn’t care.

Jon's heart is breaking and to his surprise his best friend wants to comfort him, something Damian rarely did and Jon was beyond grateful to have him in this moment. He wanted to soak up every second of what Damian was offering, even if it felt selfish.Series
