“What do you mean we’re married?” Dan Heng asks blankly, after Jing Yuan leads him to a small garden and pours him tea.
“In the eyes of the Vidyadhara, Dan Feng and I were married,” Jing Yuan corrects him patiently, like he hasn’t just thrown an entire boatload of information on his head. “You and I are not married.”
No, they’re not married. Dan Heng has a feeling that he now knows where this conversation is going.
“You and Dan Feng were married,” Dan Heng repeats, since he’s still in disbelief, “because you both got drunk and slept together, and by some ancient Vidyadhara customs that only the High Elder follows, he declared you both married, and proceeded to tell no one that he married you.”
Again, Dan Feng, what the fuck.
