He doesn't quite know how he tumbles into bed with them.
One moment, the plane sets down on the tarmac at the southside of the base, rumbling to a stop that rattles their bones. A long look is shared between his captain and his lieutenant before MacTavish looks at him, something crackling in the air between them. Electric. Foreboding.
The next moment, while they're leaving the plane, MacTavish pulls him close with a gruff hand on the nape on his neck, mumbling into his gaiter-covered ear,
"Showered and dressed down, in fifteen. Meet us in the car park,”
and adrenaline suddenly sloshes through Roach's veins, rivalling the mission not even three hours ago. -

It doesn’t matter what they’re talking about. It never has. He’d drink every word directly from Johnny’s lips if he could, but it’s not hard to settle for letting that voice slide through the air between them. The inherent ease he feels when Soap is with him is impossible to overshadow, mooring him at a safe shore, not even dampened by the sting that lights up in his chest whenever he forces himself to tamp down on the feeling.
That same ease makes something twinge between his ribs when he notices something unusual.
