An oppressive stillness blanketed Wormsnest Canyon. Nicholas slowed Angelina as he traced the ragged road meandering down to the canyon floor. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but something felt wrong about the canyon today. Anxiety curled in Nicholas’s gut. For most folks out here in the badlands, Wormsnest was a bleak, threatening chasm filled with nightmares and horrors. The kind of place that earned the scrawled words ‘Here There Be Monsters’ on any map of the area. To Nicholas, the canyon was a place of safety and comfort. Home, as much as any place on this godforsaken planet could be. Whatever was wrong here, he didn’t like it.
He realized the problem as he approached the dried out riverbed that snaked its way through the center of the colorful, sheer cliffs on either side. No worms. In Wormsnest Canyon.
