“Longing: want of somethin’, freedom,” Bucky said, eyes closed, “rusted: colour, tainted, red, like your old bike. Furnace: warmth, fire, home. Daybreak: your eyes, golden-blond hair, soft cheeks. Seventeen: first kiss, not you, wished it was. Benign: good, no threat, you. Nine: Nearly lost you, number, nine lives.”
“Homecoming,” Steve said, voice gentle, careful. Bucky was doing so well. If he got this, it meant their work was paying off.
“You, comin’ home to you,” Bucky said, voice just as soft, “one: one heart, yours. Freight car: the war, fallin’, ice…wakin’ up, blue eyes, comin’ home, you’re my home.”
