Summary
Gon’s face was unreadable but for hunger. “Killua,” Gon breathed. His eyes were huge, unblinking. He stepped half of that foot closer. “I–”
Godspeed crackled under Killua’s skin. Instant. Irreversible. The choice snatched right from his hands. Gon’s eyes went wild and dark.
He lunged, but Killua was already gone.

Summary
Gon frowned as he took in the merman. Cracked scales, a strange, dusty white like fogged glass. Their webbing looked like paper. Their skin was painted with its blush, ruddy and stark, practically steaming. The gills opened and closed in shallow, jerky little ripples that looked like they hurt.
Gently, he touched the white, salt-crusted hair. He combed the thick curls out of the merperson’s face, letting the light hit them. They hissed quietly, eyes scrunching tight, but not opening. The moment Gon let their hair fall back into their face they went silent again.
Yikes. They really had been beached for a while. This wasn’t good.

Summary
Gon, nenless and sleepy from the Welcome-Back dinner Mito made, wasn’t here. No one was watching, and no one needed him.
Killua was alone in his little storm. No one was going to stop him from indulging, a little. No one could.

Well, why not?

Summary
“I’ll get their exact location from you tomorrow before dawn,” Killua said blankly as he paused with his hand on the doorknob, “Tell your informant that I won’t be waiting for him.”
He didn’t bother with a thank you. Thank you’s were for strangers and acquaintances. It was something he’d stuck with from all those years ago.
As Killua slipped out the door into the deep hallway, he didn’t see Bisky silently pull her cell phone from her pocket. Eyes focused out into the nighttime streets, the Double Star Hunter stood still as a doe, cell phone ringing softly in her tightening grasp. Her body language unreadable.
The sudden, jarring, quiet indicated the recipient of the call had picked up.
A beat of cold, still silence.
Biscuit opened her mouth and spoke smoothly, quietly,
“Gon. It’s me. We need to talk.”
[Or, Killua crash lands into an unexpected reunion with his long lost best friend in the worst way imaginable.]

Summary
"If you can’t defeat Shoot, you must stay out of Gon’s life."
This is what Bisky told him, the thing that haunts Killua still, that echoes in his ears when he lies paralyzed in the dirt at Shoot's feet, when the tentative future he’d hoped for himself falls to pieces around him.
Killua will protect Gon for the thirty days Gon can’t use Nen. And then Killua will leave him forever.
It’s fitting, then, that that’s how long Killua Zoldyck has left to live.

Summary
"It doesn’t escape Gon’s notice that Killua is showing unfathomable restraint about the whole situation. He’s frightened and confused. All he knows is that he’s not yet allowed to leave the hospital, and that Gon and Leorio, in some way, are obstacles to overcome. For someone with Killua’s training to feel so acutely scared and disoriented and not respond with violence defies any sort of logic Gon knows. If he wanted to, Killua could fight his way out of the hospital, leave a path of bloodied bodies in his wake, and at last be free. But he doesn’t so much as raise a hand towards either of them. Gon has always known it, but this situation proves it beyond all doubt. Killua’s not truly a killer at heart. He never has been."
A Nen ability leaves Killua disoriented and badly panicked, and Gon, like always, does what he can.
