This also takes place post-NME in the anime.

It’s not like this would twist into some big, wide-spread announcement that’s blown out of proportion. It’s harmless. It’ll leave him alone.
He’s already been overlooked once, it’ll be easy to do again. He can accept that.
…That is—perhaps he could have, if everyone in the GSA wasn’t enamored by the thought of letting loose for a single night, especially after the confirmed success of their latest battle.
If rumors didn’t grow in the base like weeds, with plenty of speculation to water them.
If this wasn’t the third time today, in mere hours, that someone has reacted to the news of Falspar’s status by first asking him why he isn’t speaking out against it, given they thought he had always been considered the best pilot.

Or, Dragato has always worked hard to do what's best for the GSA, even if that includes playing a part he wasn't made for, and keeping the peace when he'd much rather be the one starting a fight.
Too bad Falspar's dumb luck overshadows it.
