Afterwards when she can’t feel anything, Rhaenrya mechanically walks back inside, violet eyes vacant, soul empty and exhausted. She always falls into a dreamless sleep until he wakes her, his hand stroking softly over her hair, hardened by callouses. And she keeps her eyes closed tightly, allowing him to methodically soothe her, inhaling the scent of soil and oil on him, letting it flood her senses. She breathes it in deeply as he pets over her cheek, her lips, her heart. He always stops there, right above her breast, and presses his palm flat against it, waiting and wanting her. As if he’s making sure her heart is still beating, warm with blood; that she is alive, unlike their son.
