Summary
In a world ravaged by Demonic creatures from another dimension, beings the inhabitants began to refer to as "the Hollows," humans banded together to create the Shinigami Order, a group spiritually powerful folk who fight against these creatures to keep everyone safe from them.
Kurosaki Ichigo is a rookie Shinigami who encounters a strange blade, that initially seems void of a spirit. However, as time passes, he quickly learns nothing is what it seems - including their history books, and he starts questioning just who exactly are the monsters here.
Also, having a literal King as your spirit-companion can truly be a troublesome matter. Having one as a lover is a whole new level of "oh shit what did I get myself into."

Summary
Ichigo and Uryuu's desperate struggle against Yhwach was all for naught: the man claimed the Soul King's power and threw them from the Palace, seizing all of the Three Worlds in the process. And while they and a handful of others continued to fight long past Yhwach's victory, their efforts were only enough to hinder the new Soul King, not overthrow him.
Aizen, free of the Shinigami and not at all willing to die or bend the knee to someone like Yhwach, had had enough: if they couldn't win in this time and place, then he'd just have to reset the board so they could win.
Not that he gave Ichigo or Uryuu any warning about his plan, the bastard.
Oh well, they're used to improvising.
