The time when Zoya saves Nikolai in the Fold after Alina kills the Darkling, and he opens his eyes to find a pair of ocean's ones. The time when Nikolai chooses Zoya for the first time, and asks her to be his General and fight alongside him. The time after, when they had win all their battles and they can tell each other of those times.
"Since he was a boy, the prince had loved to unravel the puzzle of a person, he had proud himself of being able to do so with nearly everyone he had encountered. Zoya was another kind of riddle, one that had given him more headaches than victories. She made a point to hide; and Nikolai, well, he had always been an explorer at heart, hadn’t he?"
