She’d found the gun tucked away in the drawer because he’d gotten sloppy and brought it inside, and forgotten about it when things begin to die down just a bit. Just in case things happen, neighborhoods have been bad, it hadn’t been a lie but, it hadn’t been the truth either. Just in case things happened, so he felt safe, and for worse-case scenario. But Amy didn’t need to know that.

He should do it now before he backs out. He needs to do it now before he screws up and does something and hurts her instead without an end in mind.

The hiss of the faucet whistles as it runs, there’s an undeniable sting that latches onto the opened skin. The water is tinged, tainted, a muted shade of red.

(Steady and focused, his vision blurs. Cold palms are pressed flatly against Alex’s back. “What was that about?” Asks a gentle voice, fingers rubbing gently at warm skin, scalding almost, she feels the huffs against of his lungs expanding and constricting as he breathes, his back pressing into her palms.)

Alex swallows, carding his fingers through Amy’s hair, carefully separating strands. She doesn’t argue or protest. She doesn’t keen into his touch either. He doesn’t think she would but regardless, she can’t do that anyways.
