Pepa and Julieta had mastered the skill of catching Bruno off guard by the time they were eight, asking what their Mamá had gotten for their birthday while playing, for example, much to said Mamá's frustration.
When they got older, it turned into asking if some boy or another liked them when Bruno was falling asleep, or if one sister was lying to the other as he read. He had long since accepted that his beloved sisters were menaces with no respect for their poor, fortune-telling brother.
The joy of Julieta revealing her first pregnancy was quickly buried as Bruno met her eyes and saw the same look she always got when planning to Ask Him Something.
