modern world with humans and hybrids. hybrids are almost exclusively domesticated. they’re allowed in public but only with a keeper, barely clothed, and killed if perceived as violent. many can’t speak and almost none can read/write. francis was the beloved concubine of rome, an obnoxiously wealthy man. one day francis meets a guard names arthur. he accidentally gets pregnant and they run away together after papa braginsky, rome’s dirty work guy, figures it out. twenty years later, their twins are kidnapped. one fights and gets his ass beat. the other one gets scared and docile and is taken to the market. guess who’s who. al goes to doctor ivan who sees he’s marked for a brothel and buys him instead. mattie gets found by rome’s grandsons feli and romano and bought. al hears abt this and convinces ivan to help him get his brother. They go a hybrid show party and al is targeted immediately. He ends up being brought to the stage where mattie is, they're both drugged up and they... kith... eachother. Yeah. Thankfully this is treated as traumatic as it fucking is. Neither remember initially but ivan pulls rank and gets al out of there so hes safe and thay shit dont gd repeat. Mattie learns and becomes dependant on downers to cope with that and his new reality. Al gets out, still doesn't realize what happened, and finds fruk who are out looking for them. With both Kiras finally caught, everyone assumed everything would be over after Light's execution and Misa's admittance to an asylum for the criminally insane.
Clearly that wasn't the case when four years later, Light is found at Orchard beach by none other than Matt and Mello. It seemed that peace wasn't apart of the equation for L thanks to this new development. Not only will he have to juggle the broken shell that was once Light Yagami - he has to try and keep the ex-Kira out of the jaws of the CIA and other forces who don't appreciate their prized guinea pig slipping out of their grasp.
