Buck doesn't realize he's the one being addressed until the speaker tugs at his t-shirt. He turns and blinks, taking in the lone child in front of him. It's a boy, maybe five, six years old with a bright green, dinosaur-themed t-shirt, a mess of golden curls on his head, and forearm crutches on each arm.
"'Scuse me," he repeats, lips pursed like he's weighing Buck up and finding him, so far, wanting. "Are you a firefighter?"

There isn't any alarm going, no sprinklers on, no neighbors screaming or doors banging open, but Buck knows.
"9-1-1," says a vaguely familiar voice on the other end of the phone once he punches in the numbers. "What's your emergency?"

The blond guy, Mitch apparently, smirks up at Eddie and flips a photo of Chris from his wallet to show him, then looks back at it and lets his gaze wander between the small photo and Buck’s phone. Eddie hasn’t seen Buck’s lock screen recently, but it’s not hard to guess what it is based on the other man’s words.
AKA a “what-if” fic in which Mitch and Dom assume that Buck is Christopher’s dad, too, and they use that to their advantage against Eddie.

WARNING: There is slight touching from the bad guy that makes Buck uncomfy, but the actual occurrence of it is a "blink and you'll miss it" moment and above the waist at all times (because I know that makes a difference for people).
