“You don’t know who I am?” the omega asked, his voice tentative—just a bit of hope hanging off the end, as if wishing that Xie Lian would refute him. When Xie Lian didn’t, his expression shuttered, just slightly, then he smiled and bowed his head. “This San Lang has failed to properly introduce himself. I am your devoted follower, your most loyal believer, your servant and—”
“Omega.” Xie Lian finished for him, not needing to be told. “My mate.”
Amnesiac Xie Lian recognizes his mate from his alpha instincts alone, but has no clue who the man actually is or how their relationship works. In a mindset from before his first fall from grace, he has some outdated ideas about how an omega is supposed to be treated. “Wait!” Yue Qingyuan reached out, catching his hand. He couldn’t let Shen Jiu leave—couldn’t lose him, not again. “Come back with me. Join Cang Qiong Mountain Sect.”
In another life, Shen Jiu was sure he must have agreed. He was sure he followed Yue Qingyuan back to Cang Qiong Mountain Sect, then haunted whatever peak he was assigned to like a wraith ghost. He could have been a good cultivator, but never great. Never able to reach his true potential. And that would have eaten away at him, until all that remained was bitter jealousy, creating a chasm between him and his martial siblings.
Right now, he just felt… tired. Resigned. As if he’d already lived this life, and didn’t like the ending. He couldn’t know for certain things would turn out badly for him if he followed Yue Qingyuan, but when had things ever gone right?
“No.” Shen Jiu pulled his hand from Yue Qingyuan's grasp. “I no longer wish to become a cultivator.”
In another life, Shen Jiu was sure he must have agreed. He was sure he followed Yue Qingyuan back to Cang Qiong Mountain Sect. In this one, Yue Qingyuan followed him.

Summary
Xie Lian trusts that Hua Cheng will return, but that doesn't mean he isn't still mourning the loss of his beloved. On one difficult day, when he swears he heard Hua Cheng's voice, Feng Xin and Mu Qing help him through the ensuing breakdown. They take care of him after, and once he falls asleep, Hua Cheng visits him in a dream to provide additional comfort. He also reminds Xie Lian that he would never leave him, and may not be as far away as it seems.

It had been five days since Shen Jiu had gotten a proper night of sleep. Some noble had struck a good business deal; to celebrate, he’d rented out the entire Warm Red Pavilion for him and his colleagues. Each night that week, the brothel madam had turned Shen Jiu away with a regretful expression.
“Is there really no one available, Liang-ayi?"
“Well…”
Shen Jiu stiffened at her tone, giving her a suspicious look. “Anyone female?”
Madam Liang huffed, scowling at him. “Jiu-er, I know you’re hesitant about him, but you should give Yuan-er a chance.”
“No.” Shen Jiu crossed his arms, looking away. This wasn’t the first time they’d had this conversation about the Warm Red Pavilion’s singular male courtesan.
“He’s such a sweet boy! I really think the two of you would get along well,” she insisted, reaching up to cup Shen Jiu’s cheek. “You look so tired. Will it really hurt to try? Master Zhao and his friends have no interest in him, so Yuan-er’s been stuck alone in his room this whole time. I think it will do you both some good to keep each other company.”
Shen Jiu sighed. Maybe she was right. It couldn’t hurt to try.
Maybe he'd even make a friend... or something more.

Summary
Shen Jiu glanced up as a shadow fell over him, an older boy standing at the edge of the sandbox. The sandbox was Shen Jiu’s territory, he’d claimed it as such the first day he’d set foot on the playground.
“Can I play, too?” the boy asked. He smiled, a gap in the center from a missing tooth. It should have been an ugly smile—at least until the adult tooth grew back in—but strangely, it made Shen Jiu feel warm. “It’s no fun playing all alone, is it?”
Shen Jiu surveyed the other boy. Something about him felt calming—familiar.
“Have we met before?” he asked, staring intently at the way the other’s expression shifted, his eyebrows knitting together.
“I dunno,” he shrugged, his thoughtfulness fading into sheepishness. “But when I saw you sitting here by yourself… I felt drawn to you.”
“That’s dumb,” Shen Jiu said, trading his shovel for a rake and holding it out. “I guess you can join, but you have to do as I say!”
“Okay!” the boy kicked off his shoes and stepped into the sandbox, taking the plastic tool being offered to him. “What’s your name?”
“I’m Shen Jiu.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Xiao Jiu. I’m Yue Qi.”

Summary
After Xie Lian and Hua Cheng encounter a strange bear spirit in the Cave of Ten Thousand Gods, Hua Cheng is split into three past versions of himself: a ten-year-old Hong-er whose last memory is being tossed in a gunny sack, a thirteen-year-old Xiao-Hua who just snuck into the Xianle Army, and a Wuming who still smells of smoke from the burning of the Yong’an Royal Palace.
Trapped on Mount Tonglu with no spiritual energy, no way to call for help, and no basic necessities, Xie Lian and his three companions must keep each other alive while scouring the greater Tonglu area in search of the escaped spirit, all to bring back Xie Lian’s “husband,” a man Xie Lian won’t identify for fear of complicating an already complicated situation.
Jealous of a man they’ve never met, grappling with feelings of inadequacy, and frustrated with each other’s failings, Hong-er, Xiao-Hua, and Wuming are determined to help Xie Lian—even if a successful mission means they disappear.
