Scar’s expression was simple curiosity, his small smile remaining on his lips, an easy mask to hide what he was thinking. His mask didn’t shift as Grian moved to walk toward him, even though he knew Scar must have been at least somewhat surprised being singled out suddenly by someone he didn’t know.
Grian moved until he was directly in front of Scar, wings folded tightly behind him, and he offered his hand. “Hello. I’m Grian.”
He knew Scar. He knew the calculations that must be flying through his mind as he blinked down at Grian’s offered hand, which Grian had carefully cleaned of any signs of sand. Scar could spin this in any way he wanted if Grian gave Scar any reason to doubt him.
He took Grian’s hand.
His hand was warm. There were callouses on them, thick from building and using tools, and there was a thin scar on the tip of his finger that Grian could feel. Grian never wanted to let go.
He never wanted to let Scar go.

After winning Third Life Grian is thrown back in time and given another chance - and this time, Scar is going to be the winner, no matter what.

“That was one time. I was trying to knock him out like – you know, how they do in the movies.”
John is standing in front of Sherlock’s chair.
Which, in fact, Sherlock is sitting in, a spool of boxing tape in one hand. He takes one of John’s hands into his own, turns it over, catalogs the roughness of his palms and the calluses and scars that trail up his fingers. Then, carefully, he begins to wrap them away, spinning the tape around and between them.
They will, after all, be boxing.
