“So,” Fig says, “that was Fabian, he’s gonna be on lead guitar and some keys tonight-” Fig pauses for the crowd to cheer appropriately, Fabian playing a brief lick on his guitar as they do- “and behind me, you know him, we all love him, Gorgug on the sticks!”
Ayda finds it hard to look at the two men onstage, however, even as Fig introduces them; because looking at Gorgug or Fabian would involve looking away from Fig. And Ayda really cannot bring herself to do that, yet. Not when Fig keeps glancing at her- probably in passing, as she scans the crowd of the bar- and Ayda’s pulse jumps every time she does.
“They’re the significant, I’m the figures-” Fig rolls her bass guitar up off her hip in one smooth motion, Ayda’s mouth is dry and her ears are ringing, even though it isn’t that loud yet- “lets make some fucking noise!”

This summer was somehow both a beginning and an end. The start of his life no longer tethered to Willowgrove, but a farewell tour for his adolescent, high school self. It felt too important to not revel in it.
He wanted to stretch the space between seconds, to capture every detail in 4K.
The way Shara laughed after pushing Chloe into the pool, April and Jake singing along to Stacy’s Mom in his car, the stray glitter that he would find on Smith’s cheek, days after he had taken makeup off, and how soft his skin felt under his thumb when he gently brushed it off.
He wanted it all to slow down, to swim in the honey-colored light of this sleepy town.
Rory thinks Smith is a lot like honey. Actually, maybe he is just anything golden.
Summer, Smith is summer.
