A companion to the final season of the show. Each chapter replaces a key scene with Zuko, Mai, Katara and/or Aang and explores what might have been if Mai had a driving force other than Zuko, and the tension between Katara and Zuko was allowed to develop naturally. For anyone who thought the plot was perfect but struggled with character motivations and romance. Zutara.

Summary
Written in both Zuko's and Katara's perspective. More realistic-ish take on what could possibly happen after the war in the romances, politics, and society.
Lots of slow tension build up. Action and adventure. Descriptive world writing that hopefully remains true to the original animation.

Whether they were willing to admit it or not, the last Agni Kai with Azula had sealed the bond between Zuko and Katara.
The war has passed, and Fire Lord Zuko navigates his role to lead his Nation into peace while stamping down on treason. He may be succeeding as the leader of his country, but strains to find common ground with Mai.
Katara embraces the new world, supporting Aang as the Southern Water Tribe’s Ambassador traveling together like old times… or are things just too different now?
It will be years before the Fire Lord and the Waterbender find their tides of destiny crashing once more into each other.

“Her other dad.” He clarifies. Saying things about himself this way is still challenging, but he’s trying. It helps that Ellie is scarily perceptive.
“Ohhh, so you were like – “ she pulls her jacket out in front of her, “ – knocked up?”
The first thing Joel is teaching her when they get back to Jackson is tact.
“Not my preferred use of term, but yes.”
(The Last of Us but Joel is a trans man. It doesn't change as much as you'd think)
