Odysseus's luck has long since run out and with every passing year on Calypso's island that fact seems more damning. The fates have it out for him and getting stuck in a room with his past self and his long dead crew only proves that point. At least his family is there too. If only they didn't have to watch his disaster of a journey...

Summary
Odysseus offers Zeus and alternative to his crew’s lives: himself. Unfortunately for him, Zeus accepts with a specific interpretation. He will never see his family again, but if it means he will be remembered as a sacrificial lamb instead of a monster in the eyes of Penelope, then he can make peace with it all.
Hera assumes that Zeus will get tired of his new “concubine” within the week. Odysseus proves differently. This, unfortunately, becomes a problem for everyone.
tldr: Ody does the right thing but the long-term consequences of not accepting death are complicated.
