Summary
If Edwin's being honest with himself, it wasn't surprising that Charles was in the bag. He thought it made perfect sense. What didn't was everything else. The way Charles was bundled under a white and blue baby blanket, the way he curled into himself, holding a stuffed bear, the way he was surrounded by stuffed animals and toys.
The peaceful look on Charles' face was perhaps the most perplexing.

Charles goes missing when he's upset and Edwin finds out where he's been hiding by accident. It awakens some interesting feelings.

“Then why do you dress like that?” Niko says. She knows it’s a bit impolite, but she’s curious and she wants to know things and she wants to know people. She wants to get to know this new family she’ll be joining. “I mean, it’s not exactly modern clothing you’ve got on.”
As Charles chokes on his drink, Crystal snorts into her cup. Niko even earns a smile from Edwin. “I do find her so charming,” Edwin says, and Niko beams at him.
“Anyway, Charles got really into the ‘80s,” Crystal answers, voice teasing.
“The ‘70s were a bit rough,” Charles says, and for the first time since they’ve met, his voice tightens. His smile is still as bright as before, but there's something behind it that flickers. Niko has to wonder what happened in the ‘70s to cause such a reaction. “The ‘80s were a breath of fresh air. Pretty brills, I’ve gotta say.”
(In 1973, a very mortal Monty is forced by his mother to seduce a pair of immortals so that she can experiment on them, but he quickly realizes that his heart is a bigger obstacle than predicted.

There wasn’t meant to be anybody here. There were meant to be people who came through and evacuated everyone out. It was dangerous to be this close to Edwin without protection. It was- Edwin needed to leave. He tries to wrap himself smaller as well, copying the boy in the corner, brings down the flame he’s had burning in the palm of his own hand for light-
The boy gasps at the motion, eyes huge and wet and focused on the fire that dances in Edwin’s palms. “You- You’re one of them government people.” He says, his voice is so, so soft. Nobody’s spoken to Edwin in that tone in years. “You’re here to help, right? Can- Can you help me?”
His lips are almost blue.
Fingertips frozen.
He’s dying.
He’s dying, past the point of saving, if the way his pupils don’t react to the light of the fire is correct.
“Are you cold?” Edwin has to ask, he’s moving forward, even though his mind is screaming at him not to, how everything these past seventy years have told him that he’ll hurt anybody within twenty meters, if left unchecked for longer than a minute.
The boy nods, weakly. “I’m freezing, mate.”
The boy in the attic is dying of the cold, who is Edwin to deny him a few minutes of warmth?
