Summary
The sound of footsteps on the carpet of the hallway caught his attention and the man eyed the door. The steps were too loud to be his companion which meant it was probably someone else, most likely someone occupying another room, but then they stopped at the door to his room. He listened intently to the sound of the keycard slide before the door was opened and as soon as it was, he heard a voice.
“Oh. It’s you.”

Summary
Whatever the case may be, he lets it happen, clings to it, even. It’s probably pathetic how much the phrase I have a friend drifting across his mind makes him giddy, but that doesn’t matter. He’s been here so long that he doesn’t remember what building friendships on the outside is like, but he’s sure it can’t be that much different from how this feels.
[In which I fuck with canon timelines and canon locations to explore the possibility of Tim and Michael meeting by chance during their youth inpatient days, because I want so badly for them both to have someone who understands them. Written for the fan_flashwork challenge prompt "best."]

None of it makes sense, really, but Evan doesn't think anything about him has made sense since the day he was born, so it's just more parts of a whole pattern.

Summary
He sees the monster for the first time when he’s three and climbing up the sun-warmed plastic slide at Clarkston Park. It is a shadow in and of itself, but with none of the give-and-take grace of the natural shadows he sees around him. This event is the start of the clawing, desperate thing that is Tim Wright’s life—and he’s not quite sure he’s going to be able to survive, because things just keep getting worse.

Bookmarker's Notes
I CANNOT praise this enough. 24k words felt like nothing while reading this. I was engaged and enjoyed every second of it. Also definitely made me feel even worse for Tim, but in a weird way still hopeful (if you ignore canon). Overall, a great character study!
