Denji buried his face into Pochitas fuzzy neck while they waited at the bus stop, taking deep breaths to get himself back under control. He was warm, and very soft. He smelled like if you held a coil of wire over a candle flame, sharp and acrid and undeniably Pochita.
The other passengers gave the two a wide berth as they walked down the aisle and collapsed into their seats, beginning the long drive back into town.
Denji stared out the window, watching the world go by as he ran his tongue along his bloody gums, its flavor one he grew more and more used to by the day.
Denji was twelve years old, and he knew his mom died because her heart was rotten.
He knew he was going to die the same way.

Before Chainsaw Man, it was just Pochita and Denji—two lost souls marching out each day under the weight of a debt they cannot possibly pay. Neither thought their life together would be one that lasted particularly long. They had accepted that, found ways to cope with it. "Truce is over.." Quanxi said as she cut off Chainsaw's head...but as she went to pick it up, she noticed something that surprised her.
While he had several minor burns of his face, along with blood covering it, when she looked into his eyes...she saw that they were the same as hers.
“W-What!?” Quanxi was shocked and confused to be staring into her orange pools that were shown in the teenager’s dead ones.
Right then and there, a memory that she absolutely loved and cherished yet did not want to think about had appeared in her mind as she looked at Chainsaw.
"Māmā thank's so much!" a little boy's happy voice rang as she looked down at her baby's face. Quanxi smiled softly. "You are very welcome sweetie!" she leaned down to hug her son and kissed his forehead. "Love ya, Māmā!" her son said, Quanxi smiled in response. "I love you too, baby."
Quanxi let out a horrified gasp as she dropped Chainsaw's head to the ground as a response, as she slowly realized who he really was.
"D-Denji..." Quanxi said with a look of complete and utter horror that matched her tone perfectly as she looked at her beloved little boy all grown up…with his blood on her Dao.
An AU where Quanxi is Denji's Mother.
