Summary
Simon is a chef trying to make his way in a big, affluent city. He works in a designer restaurant, Unir, that caters to the rich and famous in order to pay bills while he's trying to get his bakery business off the ground. Every part of the restaurant rubs him the wrong way: the fake food, the cowardly staff, as well as the haughty customers. He's usually able to keep his resentment in check, but one day a snobby interior designer and his realtor boyfriend come in, and Simon is unable to keep himself from ruining their wedding proposal. Now he's stuck in a city with rent he can't afford, no job, a ruined reputation, and not many options.
Until the interior designer, Baz, offers him a job catering his wedding. Simon reluctantly takes the job, knowing that it will open many doors for him. He gets sucked into the world of an uptight designer who is stuck in a relationship he hasn't found a reason to sever, heading towards a wedding he doesn't know how to stop. Simon finds himself struggles with feelings that are growing between himself and his employer, and the harder he tries to stay out of the mess, the stickier the situation becomes.

Summary
After Simon dumps Baz in the San Diego airport, Baz tries to be normal about it. He finishes up at LSE, gets an MSt in poetry from Oxford, dates a few men, fucks around. Then he gives up and retires to the Scottish Highlands to cultivate his “Rick Rubin beard” and “Unabomber vibe.” Everything is going just bloody brilliant. That is until Fiona shows up with some unexpected news. Oh yeah, and a porno mag featuring his ex wearing nothing but wings and a tail.

When Simon replays the night in his head—as he has done until the memory feels brittle around the edges—he always begins with the dip of the mattress, the slip of sheets against his pajamas (Baz’s pajamas), and the weight of blankets briefly lifted as Baz slid in beside him. Rolled to face him. Simon did what he had only recently come to learn he could do best with Baz (besides fight); he leaned in. Baz shut his eyes. They kissed.

It’s been twelve years since Simon last saw Baz. Twelve years since they kissed. Twelve years of wanting to unwind time back to that Christmas Eve. Twelve years and Simon sits in his classroom waiting for some posh little punk’s “very busy” father to pick him up from detention before the kid’s imperious bronze eyebrow raises right off his face.
