Summary
Approximately seven years after the end of the Dominion War, Elim Garak and Dr. Julian Bashir have been enjoined for nearly six years and are living on Cardassia Prime where Julian works in the Capital’s hospital while Garak is involved in unspoken government work. They appear to be a very productive, very happy couple…but is all really well?
Because of his illegal enhancements, Julian is a Carrier; in other words, he has the parts to produce and carry children. Unfortunately for him, the process that made him who he is has also left him with flaws and those flaws complicate his and Garak's desire to have what they want most...a family.
Julian must not only come to terms with the complications, but also accept that he is not alone in dealing with his sorrow...

This is the 'novella' version of 'Inner Loss.'
I had originally written this as a script, but I don't think it will ever be performed, so I have decided to write it out as a novella so more may enjoy it.
Story Summary: The Dominion War has been over for only a short time, but a catastrophic explosion cripples the station and Dr. Julian Bashir finds himself accused of the crime. In the process of this painful experience, he loses his grasp on reality AND himself. In an effort to protect his friend, Garak gets involved in the situation and weaves a complicated web that provides protection to Julian, but creates chaos in the process. Just be aware that not everything is as it appears.
I wrote this after being inspired by the 'Sid City Social Club.'

Summary
Approximately a month after the end of the Dominion War, Dr. Julian Bashir faces a surprise that creates a snowball effect. Starfleet's reaction to his unexpected situation isn't a happy one and unable to trust that Starfleet wouldn't try to harm him, Bashir goes to Colonel Kira for help. Colonel Kira sends Bashir to a Bajoran health clinic in secrecy so he can verify his discovery and decide how to respond to the grim ultimatum that Starfleet issues him. Bashir ends up needing more medical care than he originally expected and that provides him an opportunity to decide how he wants to handle the situation.
Once Dr. Bashir makes a decision about his situation, he is treated to the unexpected intervention of newly elected Legate Elim Garak. Legate Garak exposes Starfleet's hypocrisy through the journalism talents of Jake Sisko and creates a firestorm that ignites social resistance against what Starfleet is trying to make Julian do.
