What you face in your waking hours is often regurgitated and played back to you in your dreams.
When a single or repeated trauma is at the heart of these dreams they often combine and overlay to produce nightmares of the foulest type.
These can be so traumatic in themselves that you try to avoid sleep for fear of being caught in one of these.
Having PTSD is not a sign of weakness, of a feeble mind or overactive imagination. Single or multiple traumas may cause them and not every sufferer is a member of the military or a first responder.
To awake soaked in sweat and screaming is not an exaggeration.
