Hawks’s laugh fades into a humored smile. “Sorry, you caught me off guard. I’ll be serious,” he says, waving his hand in a markedly non-serious manner. “So I let you burn your handprint on me, or I leave and never come back? Those are my options?”
“Pretty much,” Dabi says. “Or you could die. That works too.”

Living a civilian life was never what Hawks had imagined doing, but here he is--looking over his shoulder and wondering if the regret will ever lessen, the pain will ever fade, and if the loneliness will ever get easier.
