Summary
It’s a quiet night out in the Badlands. The sounds of gunshots and beeping turrets have fallen away, giving room for the weary wind to brush against the sands and the desert owls to murmur amidst the hum of crickets. It was one of those nights where you could sit with a couple of friends around a campfire. Most of the other men who made their living in the barracks of the gravel pit did just that, congratulating each other on a job well done as they nursed a beer or two before stumbling into their separate rooms on base and calling it a night.
