That’s why this makes sense. Baz is a brilliant magician and just brilliant in general. If we ended up whisked away in the middle of the night Baz would get us out of there (or himself at least).
And if not?
Well, if The Humdrum killed Baz that would solve some of my problems. So, I suppose it has to be Baz.

Akk knows it’s not right, but his stomach sinks anyway. Right. His friends. Aye would’ve made friends at university who want to keep up with him while he’s on vacation. Still, there’s something uneasy stirring in his gut, something a lot like insecurity, and it comes out much stiffer than he’d like when he says, “Oh. Sorry you had to miss it.”
Aye doesn’t seem to sense the underlying tension, tapping away at his phone, blissfully unaware of the seed of doubt beginning to take root in Akk’s mind. “It’s okay. She got some good pictures, come look…”
Alternatively, Ayan studies abroad for a year, Akk stays behind, and on Aye’s first visit back in months, Akk’s forced to confront that he might be worried about being left behind.
