That’s why he printed out flyers at a downtown store with an employee staring at him with a fake smile (the entire fucking time, seriously you think they’d at least cut the bullshit when he isn’t actively conversing) and hung them up around town—on electrical poles, on the sides of buildings, inside buildings—he’s on his last leg. Got nothing to lose. He only dealt with that dumbass employee’s creepy “serve you hand and foot” bullshit for a reason. One, very vital reason. Without someone else to help pay rent, he’ll be booted out of his home of five years by September. A month away.

“You didn’t have bags under your eyes three minutes ago,” Tails had observed after Shadow vanished with the Prism, ever the astute one. Sonic, still trembling, had simply pulled his little brother into a tight hug. It wasn’t until later that day that Sonic tried to explain what had happened, but his brain felt as though it had been scrambled and fried up for breakfast. He missed half of the details and excluded the most important parts, not because he had any issue with his memory, but because his mind was simply too… gooey. Too raw. Such, he supposed, was a symptom of almost disappearing from reality.

As it turns out, almost vanishing from reality itself has some lasting repercussions.

She's determined to share everything the city has to offer with him in order to make this Christmas Eve special—especially since Sonic isn't with them to celebrate. But Tails doesn't mind. It’s only one day out of the year, and it's not like the two of them ever really make a big fuss about it. Sonic and Tails will be fine if they don't spend this Christmas together. No big deal.
However, as the night goes on, Tails begins to have his doubts as making new Christmas memories starts to stir up some old ones.

Summary
Sonic isn’t the first alternate version of the speedster who Alt-Tails has met. He’s the second. But that’s the thing about Sonics, they’re heroes so you want to trust them, they smile and it makes you think they actually care. However, Sonics only want one thing from Tails.
It’s just a shame he had to learn the same lesson twice.
Or, it turns out there’s a reason Alt-Tails doesn’t trust any version of Sonic.
