Summary
The 'altar' for the wedding is the stage of the karaoke pub. Everyone sits at their tables. There's no aisle, no way to walk up, no wedding party; just Jack, Ianto, and their officiant standing on the stage.
“Marriage is about changing together. It is about making a promise. Making an effort. Creating together because love, in its all its forms, is about creating in the face of the worst. About abiding.” The Doctor’s gaze ventures, as it must, as it always will, to Rory and Amy. She looks her spouses right in the eyes as she says, a small smile playing at her lips: “Because love is a form of hope. And like hope, love abides.”
Rory’s eyes are shining in the warm yellow pub light. Amy’s smile is as blinding as a supernova.
These are the two people that the Doctor loves. These are the two people that the Doctor has the privilege to get forever with.
And yes, there is going to be change. Yes, the Doctor will be afraid of that change.
But love takes effort. Love takes strength.
And the Doctor has never backed down from a challenge.
(While Ianto and Jack get married, Amy, Rory, and the Doctor finally work things out.)

Summary
The Doctor looks at the silver bits glowing at Amy and Rory's temples. Fury breaks past her teeth, a dark and vicious thing. This Cyber Controller thinks she can win over the Doctor? Try again.
“You think you've broken me?" the Doctor snaps, "You've given me a gift. You think caring about them, loving them, could destroy me? That it makes me lesser? It makes me more.”
“That’s where you’re wrong,” the Cyber Controller says, “Because I’m in your head, you see. I can taste your fear. You’re scared that the state of your companions is permanent.”
And that’s the thing: the Doctor is angry, yes, and afraid. Always afraid. She's been afraid from the moment she stole a TARDIS, took off to the stars, and never looked back. Every body of hers has carried that fear.
But that's the thing, isn't it? Fear and the Doctor are bedfellows. Kindred spirits. It is fear that has gotten the Doctor out of the worst scrapes she's ever been in. It is fear that made her selfish and kind and quick.
The Doctor grins, and it’s a jagged smile, a smile made of shrapnel. “I’m still just a mad man in a box. But you’re scared of that, aren’t you?”
(Never put the Doctor in a trap, or Thirteen does Nightmare in Silver.)

Summary
“Wait a minute.” The Doctor sticks her finger up her nose. “Suddenly I'm really tired.” The Doctor grabs Amy's shoulder. "I’ll pass out in two minutes, nineteen seconds, and you have to get us onto that boat. Wait, cancel that, subtract the two minutes. Make it nineteen seconds. Oh, the new nose is so unreliable-”
The Doctor slumps forward. Amy catches her. “Alright. We’re getting this boat started up. Doctor's orders."
“She just passed out," Epzo argues, "Who says she's in charge?”
It has been a very, very long day. Amy and Rory might be immortal, but they are still very human, and they are bound to break eventually.
“Says us!” shout Amy and Rory in unison.
Epzo looks at them with distrusting eyes, but acquiesces as Amy and Rory take the Doctor onto the boat and lay her on the only clean area. Amy sheds her jacket to create a pillow for the Doctor while Rory pulls out his medkit.
Rory wonders if anyone did this for the Doctor's last body after he regenerated. After defeating the Atraxi, did the Doctor pass out alone in the lonely TARDIS without anyone to take care of him?
Rory's glad that the Doctor has them this time around. She deserves for someone to take care of her.

Summary
“But you see, Doctor,” Solomon rasps, “I don’t need those dinosaurs anymore. I have found something else on this ship that is completely, 100% unique. Guaranteed to earn me a pretty penny. And my ship can fly away with it securely in its hold."
Dread squeezes the Doctor’s lungs as Solomon lays his greedy, arrogant gaze on him. “And it is something that will come with me without me having to raise a finger.”
“I’m not worth much without my TARDIS,” the Doctor tries to argue, “I’m just a guy with two hearts.”
Solomon laughs. “TARDIS or no TARDIS, you are one of a kind in the universe right now. Utterly unique. A mere organ from a Time Lord could buy a ship- imagine what I can do with an entire body.”
Solomon twitches his fingers toward the robots. “If you want, I can always shock your old friend again."
The Doctor knows he should scramble. He should fight, anyway that he can.
But Brian and Rory are trapped on the other side of that gate with those robots. At the Doctor’s first wrong move, those robots will zap Brian again or even worse.
And the Doctor cannot be the reason that Brian is hurt or all the stars forbid, even dies. He refuses to.
(Dinosaurs on a spaceship!)

Summary
The Doctor's eyes are blazing wretched nuclear heat, and Rory doesn't recognize him. "Good men don't need so many rules. And today is the day you find out why I have so many. Why you shouldn't try to get to me by hurting the people that I love. I am angry, Master. I have spent too long letting you get away, and no more. Congratulations, you got what you wanted. I'm going to kill you." He holds out his hands to Amy. "Give me the gun, and I'll take care of this permanently."
And there it is: the destruction of the Doctor.
The Master is smirking, reveling more in the fact that they are finally getting the Doctor to break this last, final rule, than they are afraid that he will kill them.
If the Doctor kills the Master, then there will be no more Doctor. There will only be the Last of the Time Lords, a man so wracked by anger and grief and guilt that he cannot even carry his own name.
Rory’s eye is throbbing, sending waves of pain piercing through his skull. He hates himself a bit for what he’s about to say, but he looks at his wife and their boyfriend and sees the hate in the Doctor’s eyes and he understands it down to his shaking bones, but-
Rory flings out a hand. “Wait, stop. We can't do this.”

Summary
Jack arches an eyebrow. “Non-pragmatic stuff is not normally what Torchwood does.”
River looks at the green prismed artifact sitting on the corner of Jack's desk, one that she actually recognizes as a Darillium child's toy, turns to Jack, and gives him an absolutely vicious smile. “Are you trying to tell me that understanding aliens and their histories isn’t practical, sweetie? Because as much as I appreciate a gun, diplomacy can certainly do a thing or two to prevent unnecessary bloodshed.”
Before River is a project. A creative project. A way to create, to save, instead of destroy. A way to keep things from flaring and fading into dust. A way to make sure that stories are preserved. A way to document and preserve the mark that people made. The choices that they made, the way that they shaped the world around them.
Jack's eyes gleam. “You certainly have a way with words, Miss Song.”
---
River is used to being the odd one out. She spent her whole childhood being ferried from place to place, never fitting in, the only priority being trained to defeat the Doctor.
But over her time here in Cardiff, River comes to learn that Torchwood makes sense in a way that no other place ever has.
