Dr. Kelly, by some sort of lucky miracle, had allowed Reese to host a movie night, which rubbed Emily the wrong way. Isn’t he in his 20s? Even if he’s really that sick, his mom shouldn’t be so controlling. Still, this was an exciting opportunity. Stella had been hyping up Reese for the past two days, and he had seemed like a great guy during their first meeting. His art was cool—though admittedly spooky—and he was much warmer and more welcoming than most folks around town.
But it was awkward being the third—well, more like fourth—wheel in a tight-knit group of childhood friends.

State Police would very much prefer the FBI not getting involved in the Erath Case, LSU could use the extra funding a little bit of good press can grant a struggling department (like a footnote on solving notorious murder cases, maybe?) so Liz is playing intern for homicide detectives, fetching files, pointing out stuff probably non-nerds wouldn"t recognize, it"s a good distraction from whatever she has going on in her head. She doesn"t have anything good going on in her head. She likes thrills. She misses a life far gone. She doesn"t like eating.
Rust Cohle is a good distraction from whatever she has going on in her head.
