The final battle with AFO went horribly wrong. AFO won and many people died. He took over the world and ruled over it like a god. Izuku and Melissa went into hiding along with Eri and Kota. Years later, well into AFO's reign, Eri's quirk hit the singularity and she rewound the four of them back to the beginning of all of this.
They swore that they would prevent a repeat of the darkest timeline.
