Summary
There, on his chair, sat a little plushie. A plushie that resembled himself, wearing the same Academy uniform that he was also wearing, sporting even his exact haircut, and whoever had made this had even thought of the little cut in his eyebrow. There was, however, a smirk on the face of the side-eyeing plushie.
“Viktor.”
“Yes, Jayce?”
Viktor did not look up from his work. Jayce pointed at the plushie. “What… is this?”
Finally, Viktor removed his goggles and glanced his way.
“Oh, that’s Baby Jayce.”
Jayce stared at Baby Jayce’s smug face, the little beady button eyes all-knowing and challenging.
“Why is Baby Jayce in my chair?”
“What do you mean? He likes it there.”
The look Viktor gave him was one of honest innocence, eyebrows drawn quizically. Jayce almost sputtered.
“But… it’s my chair! I need to work.”
“He’s doing science-”
“No, he’s not!”

She gives him a blank look. Jayce levels one back. He isn’t sure which one of them is more confused.

Summary
So, Viktor sleeps only three hours through no fault of his own. But if he had slept more, he would have arrived at the lab earlier. Or he would have seen the sliver of light underneath the door. Or he would have heard the footsteps inside.
Decidedly not human footsteps.
But because Viktor failed to sleep properly last night, he arrives at the lab later than usual, later than Jayce, and does not notice these things.
Hence his surprise when he opens the door to see Jayce playing with a dog.
OR
There is a dog in the lab. Viktor and Jayce have a conversation about keeping it. What they don't say to each other is probably more important.

“They don’t want me,” she said finally, as a whisper that sounded way too loud in the empty warehouse. “They want Jinx the hero.”
She faced him then, spreading her hands, splattered with green and purple paint, and grinned so wide it must have hurt.
Viktor’s chest hurt.
“You’re looking at Zaun’s new kingpin, baby!” Jinx declared, grinning, “The Undercity’s biggest faker!”

Part 2 (3?) to my Zaun Viktor AU where he and Jinx are partners in crime. Except I didn't write this in a fugue state this time and the plot was intentional. Lots of other relationships, more characters, JayVik gets a bigger focus, and Jinx gets a lot of POV scenes.
