When angrily pressed for a reasonable explanation, he'd managed to choke out the words he'd hardly dared think to himself.
"I'm gay."
...In the end, his father finally accepted the inevitable, and disowned Stede."

Summary
Ed had attacked him when they'd boarded, as half-expected. He'd easily overcome Stede, as definitely expected – even Stede had realized by now that his sword lessons with Blackbeard had been more flirtation than skill.
But after pinning Stede to the deck by his shirt, Ed had him brought to his quarters, instead of the brig and instead of killing him outright – or maiming him enough to render a slow painful death a guarantee. Stede allowed his heart to surge with hope once more.
Until.
(Or, another reunion fic, where Ed has given himself over to the Kraken and embraced the violence.)

Summary

Ed thinks he might have finally found something until one day with the man leaves him without so much as a note.
One year later, celebrating a full recovery, Ed stumbles across a familiar face in a bar.
