Ed had always had a problem with personal space.
He never really noticed it. He assumed that if he did then he wouldn't have the problem in the first place, but alas he didn't, so it wasn't exactly a rare occurrence when people backed up from him or asked him to step away. Comments like 'why are you breathing down my neck?' or 'could you move, Ed?' were commonplace enough to not even cause offense.
That is to say, he wasn't all that surprised when, upon first meeting the Penguin, the mobster told him that he was standing too close.
____Ed and Oswald figure out how to casually, and not-so-casually touch another person.

Being around Ed all the time, living under the same roof, and sharing warm, fulfilling moments together—all the while not being able to cross the line from platonic to romantic—is torture.
But this? This shameless demonstration of Ed’s boyish good looks? This blatant exhibition of his impossibly long and delectably fit body? This indecent display of flesh, each inch of pale skin highlighted by the beads of water still dripping down him?
This is hell.
And Ed, who was the one to propose an afternoon swim due to the sweltering summer heat, is the devil himself.
