Summary
Ulchtar is an aerospace engineer working under MECHA, the world's largest anti-alien defense corporation. (If you asked him, he'd even say he's their *finest* aerospace engineer.) He's led their space program since its inception. But his career takes a nosedive after Jazz, one of their best mech pilots, vanishes during MECHA's very first space mission, and his boss decides his talents are no longer necessary.
If he's going to survive, he'll need a lot of help. And if that help comes in the form of a giant robot from space that predates human civilization, who the hell is he to complain?

Summary
There are a lot of things that Trigger doesn't remember.
He doesn't remember how or when he crashed. Or why he was in the air in the first place. Or how he was saved by a bunch of mercenaries. Or why there's an artificial intelligence trapped in his head that calls him "Dad." Or...basically *anything* from the last week or so, actually.
But the next few months, and the friendships (plus one more-than-friendship) that he'll make during them, are all things he'll remember for the rest of his life.
(Or, the one where none of Simon's simulations could have accounted for Sicario.)

The mech blinks at him and scowls. Which, wow, okay, it has a face. Mouth, eyes, a nose—the works. Well, one of the eyes isn’t lit up, but still. It can blink! Jazz couldn’t even get the clearance to have Bebop’s visor display emojis, and not for the lack of trying. Meanwhile, this guy gets a whole, expressive face and—holy shit, are those teeth?

Summary
The war clock’s always counting down to the next estimated attack. Estimated. The aliens are down to a routine, now. They rip through the sky like paper and drift towards the Earth's surface. And the thing about them is that they don’t attack anyone. They don’t try to fight anything at all. Not at first, at least. Instead, they just dig, like they’re looking for something. They dig.
They dig straight through cities. It’s what started this whole thing. That’s a little insulting, actually. That the aliens just came to Earth to dig, and killing millions of people was no problem for them. An effortless move by these fucking titans that didn’t care. They didn’t give one shit that impossibly long tendrils were ripping apart concrete jungles filled with families. The scraping of talons piercing through roads people still fled on was drowned out by the allure of whatever lay beneath the surface for them. The aliens didn’t fight until humanity went from an inconvenience to a threat.
Here’s how that goes.

Jazz already lives in a sci-fi movie. Has since the day giant tentacle aliens decided to spread their reign of terror across Earth. Major asshole move by the way, have YOU ever lived during the apocalypse? Not fun.
Anyway, he couldn't just sit there while his home was destroyed. When the government asked him to get in a giant robot suit, he happily agreed!
So, yeah! Jazz lives in a sci-fi movie.
