"You don’t know me," she told him, all that time ago, but he does, he does, he does.
And if she feels more seen by the guy who’s made her fear for her life than by her husband of twenty years, what does that say about her marriage?

Summary
For a minute, it’s hard to see the source of the blood, rivulets running down the thin lines of his abs, pooling in the hollow of his belly button. It smears red across too much of him, and Beth has to lean in a little closer until the metallic scent of blood hits her nostrils and it’s all she can smell. She curls her hair behind her ears, traces her gaze until she finds the wound that’s still weeping. A round little puncture about the size of a watch face, a newborn’s yawning mouth, a golden dollar, in the normally honeyed skin at the edge of his left hip.
Beth exhales, and she’s close enough it hits his side, if the shiver that runs through him is any indication, and she shifts back onto the couch as she looks back up at him.
-A blackout rolls over the city and Rio shows up at Beth's in need of a little care. Set post-s4.

Summary
Gesturing to the bartender to get his usual while simultaneously grunting out, “Got a tail.”
He says it offhand. Like she doesn’t need any more detail than that.
She freezes, head whipping around and immediately searching the bar for someone watching them, hand itching to grab the duffle bag of cash stashed below the bar and hide it just that little bit better.
His hand darts to her thigh, grip firm. Steady. His thumb is brushing back and forth on the skin exposed where her dress has ridden up in what she thinks is supposed to be a soothing manner. But it just makes matters worse. Because now on top of the anxiety of a threat’s eyes on her, Rio’s hand is on her.
or, Beth and Rio HAVE to kiss to hide from the bad guys!! they have to!!

Summary
She hesitates, just a second, before asking, “What about your ex? She didn’t want to come out to wait for her mom?”
Rio’s eyes turn molten, those devastating lashes lowering as he looks back at her, lips quirking. “Nah, I offered to.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah. Ain’t looking forward to seeing her, but had a little… incentive.”

Summary
“That’s the thing with havin’ kids,” she’d hummed, smoothing her touch at his clean-shaven cheek. “You wait too long to see them, they’ve done a whole lot of growin’ without you. Not always the good type either.”
And he’d rolled his eyes then, because he was young enough to think that shit was about him, a jab about not swinging round enough, not going to church with her for anything but the holidays, about the fact that Rhea was nursing Marcus out on the back steps without a ring on her finger, or about the cut on his chin nobody had been able to stop eyeballing since he’d gotten out of his car.
But the thing is, he looks at Marcus now and he thinks:
An inch, maybe two.
That’s how much taller he is.
